Led by Hannibal Square Heritage Center’s Manager, Jasmin Harris, explore the historic African-American community of Hannibal Square. Walk the streets of today while immersing yourself in the history of yesterday…..when Hannibal Square was a segregated self-sustaining community. Segregation created the necessity and opportunity for entrepreneurship. The resiliency of residents made Hannibal Square a successful, vibrant, thriving community. Along the walking tour, you will see historic sites such as Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Welbourne Day Care and Nursery, founded in 1927, and the Masonic Lodge, constructed in 1927. The tour includes a visit to the Heritage Center’s permanent exhibition, the Heritage Collection: Photographs and Oral Histories of West Winter Park, which speaks of the hardships and the triumphs of the African American community from 1900 to the present. The walking tour is within 1 mile; we encourage comfortable walking shoes and weather protective gear.
